Client- York University

Green Campus Co-operative (GCC) website represents a non-profit organization that is committed to sustainability, environmental consciousness, and ethical business practices. As a cooperative, GCC works to provide students and the broader community access to eco-friendly products and services, while promoting sustainable practices on campuses.

Problems I found and Solution I proposed for the Problem-

1. Homepage:

  • Challenge: The homepage lacked strategic use of prime real estate, with an ineffective call-to-action (CTA) directing to the "About Us" page. The cluttered featured products section, non-functional 'add-to-cart' button, and redundant CTAs caused confusion.

  • Solution: I redesigned the top banner to highlight promotions, reduced the number of featured items for better clarity, and resolved the functionality issues of the 'add-to-cart' button. Redundant CTAs were replaced with more relevant links to promotions and certifications.

  • Next Steps:

    • Redesign the homepage banner and featured products section.

    • Streamline CTAs for clarity.

    • Test and implement 'add-to-cart' functionality.

  1. About Us Page:

  • Challenge: The 'Our Story' and 'Why Choose Us' pages lacked relevant imagery, with repetitive content making the sections feel outdated. The 'Our Board' page also failed to provide personal details about board members.

  • Solution: I incorporated visuals and logos to boost credibility, removed duplicate content, and added detailed board member bios and photos to create a more engaging narrative.

  • Next Steps:

    • Enhance 'About Us' pages with visuals that tell a better story.

    • Update board member profiles with images and quotes.

  1. Fairtrade Page:

  • Challenge: The imagery used on the Fairtrade page was irrelevant, and the information on Fairtrade principles was not clearly communicated.

  • Solution: I replaced the images with more relevant visuals and rewrote the content to better explain the importance of Fairtrade and its impact.

  • Next Steps:

    • Align visuals with Fairtrade principles and create clear content that resonates with users.

  1. Stories Page:

  • Challenge: Outdated event albums were displayed first, and the media and press section was hard to find, buried under 'Other.'

  • Solution: I reorganized the Stories page to highlight recent events and moved the media and press section to a more visible location.

  • Next Steps:

    • Refresh the page layout to ensure relevance and improve visibility of important sections.

5. Product Page:

  • Challenge: Navigation buttons appeared inactive due to color choices, and the separation of 'Stock Orders' and 'Bulk Orders' confused users. Product categorization was unclear, certifications were inconsistent, and the CTA for wholesale was misdirected.

  • Solution: I updated the navigation button design for better visibility, merged stock and bulk orders into a unified "Wholesale" section, improved product categorization and filtering options, and ensured that certification icons were standardized across all products.

  • Next Steps:

    • Implement design changes for navigation buttons.

    • Standardize certification icons and improve product categorization.

    • Optimize CTAs for better user flow.

6. Bulk/Stock Order Pages:

  • Challenge: The 'Get a Quote' and 'Place an Order' CTAs lacked visual contrast, potentially confusing users and failing WCAG accessibility standards.

  • Solution: I enhanced the color contrast of the CTAs to improve visibility and meet accessibility standards while redesigning them to be more visually appealing.

  • Next Steps:

    • Ensure the CTAs meet WCAG standards and test for user engagement improvements.

Conclusion

Through this detailed audit, I provided process-oriented solutions that improved the GCC website's usability, accessibility, and overall user experience, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and functional efficiency.
